In 1976 a group of local businesspeople and residents established the Community Club, for the purpose of "promoting civic and community welfare within the City of Fertile." Some of the recent projects the Community Club has taken on include the purchase of flower pots and benches for the downtown area, and new Christmas streetlights and banners.

The scenic trail along the Sand Hill River near the Agassiz ELC Nature Center is perfect for those getting back into skiing or seeking an easy outing with fairly flat terrain and the open water of the Sand Hill River providing scenic splendor and wildlife sighting opportunities. Ski trails through rolling hills to suit any level of skier ability and energy are available in the oak savanna/sand dune complex of the Fertile Sand Hills above the river trails. Approximately 10 miles of trails are available for fun and fitness.
Along the Agassiz Recreational Trail, many areas are awaiting your discovery.

This abandoned railroad grade, now a multi-use trail, runs between Ulen, MN on the south and Fertile on the north, paralleling State Highway 32. The trail passes through the cities of Ulen, Gary, Twin Valley, and Fertile which provide support facilites to all trail users including mountain bikers and equestiran users.

The City of Fertile boasts plenty of winter fun for those warmer winter days, all of it cost effective for families!
Our lighted skating rink and warming house makes for great evening fun. Join with other families in the Fertile area, get some exercise, or just enjoy the winter weather.
The rink will be closed when the temperature is at or below –15 degrees or if the weather is too stormy to keep it open. Also, the rink will be closed when the ice is in unusable condition and during the time it is being flooded and resurfaced. The City will follow and enforce State guidelines for opening the skating rink warming house. Masks will be required and capacity limits may also be in place. The City will also follow safety protocols regarding the sanitizing of rented equipment.

Fertile boasts its location, near the Sand Hills, and is proud of the Sand Hill River flowing through the the City. It's landscape is more unique than other Northern Minnesota towns. We are centrally located where we feel rural, but big cities are just a car drive away.
